“A plague seems to be affecting the virile young men of a police state, and a patriot can’t figure out if he ought to be a lover or a warrior. Is his bedroom the nation in microcosm? And why does he get turned on by the flag? Shrinks, spies, and betrayals figure in The Strange Case of Citizen de la Cruz, a play by Luis H. Francia. In this absurdist tale Bayani de la Cruz, civil servant extraordinaire, turns uncivil by deciding to live up to his name—and regain his manhood.”

The Strange Case of Citizen de la Cruz was given its world premiere in 2012, staged in San Francisco by Bindlestiff Studio.
Luis H. Francia‘s latest book of poems is Tattered Boat (2014). He is an adjunct professor at New York University and Hunter College, and a member of the New York Writers Workshop.
