TOPAZ ARTS is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Carlos L. Esguerra: Architectural Gems of NYC – on view October 26 to November 23, 2024. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Oct 26, 3-6pm, as part of TOPAZ ARTS’ Annual Fall Open House celebrating Filipino-American History Month of October. Admission is complimentary. Photographer Carlos L. Esguerra features a new series of images that capture architectural gems of New York City. From towering skyscrapers to iconic landmarks, each image captures the beauty in their form, highlighting at once intricate details and grandeur of contemporary architecture. Esguerra shares his passion for photography, stating, “I want to show the beauty of nature and the genius of man-made structures through my photography. I try to capture this beauty in a simple, uncluttered, and austere way.” In this series of color and black and white photographs, Esguerra often focuses on sections of a building, capturing reflections that result in images that stand on their own as an artistic representation of the architecture. This exhibition at TOPAZ ARTS highlights Esguerra’s ability to find inspiration in the everyday, reminding us of the beauty that can be found even in the busiest of cityscapes.

About the Artist:
Carlos L. Esguerra is an award-winning photographer, born in the Philippines and currently resides in NYC. With a background in the computer field spanning 36 years, Esguerra embraced early retirement to dedicate himself to his lifelong passion for photography. Esguerra’s photographs in capturing nature and architecture have garnered numerous national and international awards since 2000, including the International Photography Awards, Prix de la Photographie Paris, German Mega Circuit, Trierenberg Austrian Circuit, Pollux Awards, and among many others. Esguerra is a recipient of a 2024 Queens Arts Fund: New Work Grant. His photography has been supported by a 2022 En Foco Photography Fellowship in The Bronx, the Individual Artist Support Grant by the Queens Council for the Arts in 2020, and ‘Greater China Grant’ from the Luminous-Landscape Endowment Fund in 2017, and has earned prestigious recognitions, including the the ‘Ani ng Dangal’ by the National Council on Culture and the Arts of the Philippines, the ‘Distinguished Alumni Award in Culture and the Arts’ from the University of the Philippines, the Order of the Knights of Rizal – New York Chapter Award in Literature and the Arts, and received the ‘Pamana ng Pilipino’ Presidential Award, the highest award given by the President of the Philippines to overseas Filipinos who excel in their fields of expertise. He studied Business and Economics at the University of the Philippines and obtained his MBA from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Artist Carlos Esguerra is supported by TOPAZ ARTS Visual Arts Program; and is a recipient of a 2024 Queens Arts Fund: New Work Grant, a re-grant program supported by NYC Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and administered by New York Foundation for the Arts.
